Spring break was rolling around and we wanted a quick escape from the city. With Mia approaching her toddler years, a flight just wasn’t in the cards. At least an enjoyable one anyway 😉 Being city kids, we’ve hit the pavement and have been there done that with just about every Philadelphia attraction the city has to offer. Here is a complete tour of our stay at a stunning renovated farm house in South Jersey which was an Airbnb.
We were looking to slow down to speed up and get in some fresh air.
On a recent Instagram scroll, I stopped in my feed to gawk at a stunning home out in South Jersey. This home with impeccable design just happened to be a Harlow Grey Home and was an Airbnb (here is the exact listing). A few quick DM’s and email’s later, we found our Spring Break.
Just about an hour’s drive from Philadelphia, we arrived to our Airbnb in Bridgeton, NJ to discover a long dirt road that led to sprawling green grass and a peaceful waterfront. The home, dubbed the Townsend, is a renovated farm house that sits on the Cohansey river. Sunsets and serenity are pretty much served for breakfast here along with these fresh baked cinnamon rolls.
So excited with space to run around, a river bank to go walking on in mud boots (and a gorgeous mud room!) and a fire pit for making smore’s, I think this was one of the girl’s favorite vacations. The Townsend really lets you slow down and take in the fresh air. One of my favorite memories will be the girls sitting at the window watching for bunnies.
Every room of the house has a water view. It doesn’t get better than that.
As we arrived, the side door opened up to a large, brightly lit kitchen with white cabinetry and a island perfect for gathering while I cooked. That vacation we grilled, made tacos, pancakes for breakfast every morning and I finally learned to make coffee out of a coffee pot.
With 4 bedrooms and sleeps at least sixteen, the Townsend is also a perfect place for a large family gathering, group or retreat. I kept envisioning cooking, styling and photography workshops side by side to the peaceful sound of birds on the river. Every room was gorgeously designed with impeccable taste. I kept wondering when I would see the home in Architeure Digest. From the bathroom tiles to the shiny gold hardware, each detail of the house was carefully thought out. We loved the family rooms with books about cooking and the Pool table where Joey and Bailey stayed up late while he taught her to play pool.

A quick trip into town led us back with a giant watermelon, two kites, two fishing rods and lures and a baseball bat and whiffle ball. Hello countryside, we are now prepared. I don’t think I wore anything but my rainboots that week and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. We flew kites, made makeshift bases as we all missed the ball and ran anyway and bundled up at night to roast one last marshmallow.
Skipping rocks along the river bank and snacking in the grass brought a different kind of fun for our usual city dwelling family. We brought the popcorn making and Joey made popcorn every night and watching the baby excitedly jump up and down in anticipication for the popcorn in front of the big kitchen windows is a memory I’ll always have.
We fished for 3 days in a row, caught nothing, but golden hour on the dock made for a sight for sore eyes.
In the evenings we would walk down the long path of gravel to see how many hawks we could see soaring above and listen to the wind between the feather-like branches that adorned the walkway in between the river. Every now and then we would see a furry brown critter scatter by. We drove slowly through the area only to have four deer cross right in front of us. Where were we going? To get donuts and pretzels at the Amish market of course.
If you’re in the greater Philadelphia area, I highly recommend booking the Townsend for a weekend of R & R. The Townsend can be found on Airbnb here. Harlow Grey Homes is also a woman owned business with a collection of homes that will no doubt leave you in wanderlust.
