Philadelphia’s City Hall and Dilworth Park

City Hall 

On the top of my list of things to do in Philadelphia, a must-see is City Hall and Dilworth Park. Stemming from the Center of Philadelphia is a towering statue of William Penn, who set aside the Center Square for public buildings when he planned the city in 1682. 200 years later, City Hall is quite the sight to see. With the first floor made entirely of granite, brick and marble details make up this ornate building.

Taking a trip to City Hall lets you literally walk through the city. From Market Street you can walk through the building to a beautiful courtyard that often hosts seasonal activities (Christmas time is quite the sight to see!) and you can learn about Philadelphia’s history while visiting. Scupltures adorn the outside of the building in themes of seasons, countries, gods, mythical creatures and masks. The artwork, including the 27 ton statue of Penn are by Alexander Milne Calder.

Dilworth Park

On the West Side of City Hall you will find Dilworth Park. Regardless of the season, the park is filled with things to do. In the spring and summer you will find children giggling in the fountains and in the winter time you will find the Rothman Ice Rink where locals and visitors can skate along side city hall. Last year we even saw Kendall Jenner skating along some of Philly’s finest 😉 

You will find gardens, fountains and great food options along Dilworth with the city keeping it up to date and in season. It’s fun to play in the middle of the city. Dilworth Park is located at 1 S 15th St (West Side of City Hall).

Where to Eat on a trip to City Hall and Dilworth Park.

Here’s one of the best things about Philly. Literally on every block is an amazing meal, bakery, brewery or restaurant. 

Here are some of my top picks for dining or drinking around city hall:

• Pop into Aqimero’s bar at the Ritz Carlton for the prettiest lobby and cocktails
• La Colombe Coffee on S 15th is always a good idea. 
• The Dilworth Park Cafe is easy and onsite. 
• Head down a few blocks on broad to the Pearl Room at the Bellevue for some gorgeous views that will make you question if you’re still in Philly or in Paris. 
• The new Notary Hotel is now open and the perfect place to score a cocktail. 
• Trademan’s on Chestnut is a great spot with an open air walk up bar and amazing BBQ. Next door to Porta for pizza!
• Del Frisco’s Grille on Broad for a delicious lunch or dinner is always a good idea. 
• The Fashion District will be opening up very shortly and you can hit the newest shopping in town while seeing City Hall. 
• The Fitler Club in Philadelphia is a gorgeous space to dine and stay.
